Do you guys ever read any of Shel Silverstein’s poems? Have you read The Yipiyuk:
“In the swamplands long ago,
Where the weeds and mudglumps grow,
A Yipiyuk bit on my toe…
Exactly why I do not know.
I kicked and cried
And hollered “Oh”—
The Yipiyuk would not let go…….”
We nicknamed my daughter “The Yipiyuk” because she was a ferocious, intense nurser from day two. We also called her piranha baby. Back to today’s post…
She’s teething and biting her crib. Most parents are usually worried about keeping the crib in good shape for years of use down the road (convertible crib) but I am worried about the Yipiyuk ingesting the corny varnish and stain used on the crib. She doesn’t know that is why she is getting sick, she just know that it feels good to have the counter pressure on her gums. SO, we decided to purchase crib guards. Unfortunately, most of them seem to be latex and dusted with a mysterious powder (CORN). I am planning to learn to sew but I do not have time to devout to that at present. I needed an alternative to the typical solution of gummy crib guards so I began searching the internet.
I came across these Crib Rail Covers from One Step Ahead (If you haven’t seen this site, you are really missing out!) and we’ve ordered them. They just arrived but they are quite stinky from the vinyl packaging. We’ve begun the de-stinkification process and hope to have them installed by the end of the weekend. I’ll update the post when we have tried them and I have an opinion of their usefulness.
